[prMac.com] Sunnyvale, California - Independent developer Jiayi Chong has announced the release of Math Pets! Mini 1.0 for the Apple iPhone/iPod touch platform. Math Pets! Mini is an educational game environment designed to make learning essential math skills a fun, social, and immersive experience. Helping to exercise mental math fundamentals, the games are built to hone skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Each game takes place in beautifully drawn and animated 2D environments and involves hands-on mechanics to engage the user. The iPad version of this app was featured by Apple as "What's Hot" under the Education category on the iTunes store.

Teaching like it's 2999: They're Baaack: FREE Everyday Math Games ...

Growing up I was a sci-fi nerd. Now that I'm an adult, I am still a sci fi nerd. However there is one main difference. As a teen, I marveled at the amazing technology in the future -- touchscreen computers, handheld devices, transporters! As an adult, I am finding that the future is NOW - we have all of the devices I saw in my favorite shows as a kid (well, many of them)! Armed with this amazing technology, I have been able to transform my classroom into a digital learning environment. I've experienced the joy of Web 2.0, friendly apps and web-based content sharing platforms. Yet the road is not always smooth... I may be a Trekkie, but I'm no techie. I'm learning as I go. Follow along as I navigate this exciting, sometimes bumpy, wormhole into the future... and teach like it's 2999! Ms. Magiera is a 5th grade teacher in Chicago Public Schools. She received her B.A. in Psychology and History at Columbia University. She then attained her M.S.T. in Mathematics Education at University of Illinois-Chicago. When Ms. Magiera is not in the classroom, she works on curriculum projects and leads PD workshops for Golden Apple, CPS and the Academy for Urban School Leadership. In 2008, she was named a Golden Apple Teacher of Distinction and subsequently helped to co-found and run the GA Teachers for Tomorrow annual conferences. She is currently involved in the University of Chicago Teacher Leadership Institute for Math and Sciences and will be working with U of C as a summer curriculum writing fellow. This year, Ms. Magiera has been implementing an iPad technology grant. She is enjoying using this innovative technology, combined with Google Tools, to improve assessment practices and increase student engagement. Recently she was named an Apple Distinguished Educator and is excited to learn more about tech ed as a part of this cohort. Aside from her students, Ms. Magiera's great loves in life are sci fi, mashed potatoes, Tabasco sauce, her dog and her husband.
