Where Can I See Fireworks In Colorado?

2011 Independence Day Celebrations

ALAMOSA Fireworks begin at dark at Alamosa Fairgrounds on July 4 when it gets dark, about 9 p.m. Join the Alamosa community in this good, old-fashioned down home celebration. Pancake breakfast, parade, activities, and fireworks. Learn more by calling 719-589-3681.

ARVADA Fireworks kick off at night (at about 9 p.m.) on July 4th at the Lutz/Stenger Sports Complex located just west of Kipling on W. 58th Avenue. Show lasts about 25 minutes. The fireworks are set to a musical simulcast on KOOL 105.1. Festivities begin at 3 p.m. Call 720-898-7400, or go to Arvada.org for more information. There will be lots of family fun which include a Kids Park with obstacle course, games, car show, temporary tattoos, food concessions, and entertainment all day. KOOL 105 will be hosting a classic car show. Parking will be on a first-come first-serve basis beginning at 2 p.m. No parking will be allowed on Kipling Street. Please remember that fireworks, alcohol and pets are not allowed in the Lutz/Stenger Sports Complex.

ASPEN Aspen/Snowmass plans to celebrate Independence Day the “Old Fashioned” way on July 4th. The schedule of events for Aspen’s Old Fashioned Fourth of July includes an outdoor market, antique and arts fair, a parade down Main Street, picnics and even more concerts. All of the excitement concludes with a fireworks extravaganza over Aspen Mountain when the sun goes down. Details can be found at AspenChamber.org

AURORA Fireworks will be launched 9:30 p.m. on July 4, on the west side the Aurora Municipal Center lawn and can be viewed within a two mile radius. Fireworks will be 25 minutes long and patriotic music will be simulcast on 1430 KEZW. The fireworks also may be viewed from surrounding areas. Best viewing locations include east of Potomac Street, south of Sixth Avenue, north of Mississippi Avenue and west of Buckley Road.

Thrifty Thursday: Saving on Staying Cool This Summer!

    Buy a programmable thermostat.   You can set it to get warmer in your home when you are not home.  (Thus hopefully saving some electricity!) Open the windows and use your ceiling fans. When I am home over the summer, I like to do this (especially during the morning hours).  You would be surprised at how cool you will stay unless it is really hot outside. Take a cool shower instead of a hot one.  I love a cool shower in the summertime.  Plus it saves on hot water heating! Make your own popsicles.   Kool-Aid and ice trays are really cheap.  You can enjoy a nice little treat to cool you down! Wear light color, cotton clothing.   It breathes.  The light reflects.  You will be cooler! Run through the sprinkler or visit the neighbor’s pool. You don’t have to shell out big money for water parks.  Enjoy some “water fun” close to home. Short hair or a ponytail.   I know everyone is different about their hair, but let’s face it, short hair is cooler during the summer months.  Long hair?  keep that pony tail handy. Do your physical work early or late.   Early in the morning and late in the evening are the coolest times during the summer.  If you can, plan your chores during those times! Take breaks and sit down.   Sit down in a cooler spot in your home or take a break in the shade.  It will help you feel cooler to sit still. If it is super hot, run your air conditioning. Suffering heat exhaustion or heat stroke and ending up in the hospital is much more expensive than running your air.
