Sabres-Americans Press Conference Recap: Welcome To The University Of Hockey

The Buffalo Sabres and the Rochester Americans held their first official press conference as affiliates today, and coined a new phrase for Rochester to go along with Hockey Heaven up in Buffalo - The University Of Hockey.

In his introductory speech, new Amerks owner Terry Pegula praised the union between Buffalo and Rochester, calling the Amerks "The University Of Hockey." This of course immediately caused Twitter to explode (thanks to WGR's Joe Buscaglia ) with classes that will be taught at said University, such as "How To Re-Energize A Fan Base In Four Months 101" and "Foreign Language: French Connection."

Pegula, and later Ted Black and Darcy Regier made sure to constantly mention that they want to win championships in both Buffalo and Rochester. "This is not an affiliation, it's a unification," said Black, and Regier added that they all want the Amerks to be a winning organization and not just a training ground for Buffalo. Black also reiterated his promise that when the Sabres win the Cup, the team will hold a separate parade in Rochester, joking that maybe they'll just hold one really long parade.

Black, who will also be president of the Amerks and will spend one day a week in Rochester, also had great news for Amerks fans - all season tickets, for any seat in the building , will be $10 per game. For those not wanting to get in on that mind-blowing deal, the Amerks will have some games broadcast on Time Warner Cable, but it will probably be fewer than the 30 that were broadcast last year.

While this season will not see much interaction between Buffalo and Rochester, as training camps and exhibition games are already scheduled, both Black and Regier promised that those two events plus a possible regular season game would return to Rochester starting next season.

The player I would like least at #9 would be my sister’s cat, Captain Creamsicle. She does have a great work ethic and agility, but I’m really concerned that at 9 lbs., she’s too small to play safety in the NFL. She also bites way too often on play action and is easily distracted by someone waving string in the crowd. Lastly, her wonderlic score was pretty awful, answering "meow meow meow" for most of the questions- Dr. Brackish Okun
