Busy times at Pinsent Masons
Law firm Pinsent Masons is powering up in Manchester with new partner appointments, panel wins and an increased workload in the oil, gas and nuclear sectors.
Partner Kevin Bridges has relocated from the firm's Bristol office to head its health and safety and regulatory team in Manchester, while commercial property specialist Jim Purves joined as a partner last month from Brabners Chaffe Street.
In addition, Samantha Livesey is to join Pinsent Masons as a commercial partner from Pannone.
Other recent arrivals include property finance solicitor Katie Ridehalgh from Gateley and property litigator Nicola Buchanan, who has joined as a senior associate from Eversheds.
Nina Choudhury will join the pensions team as a senior associate at the end of August.
Key client successes in recent weeks include being reappointed to Manchester United's panel for matters such as brand protection and employment, following a tendering process.
Pinsent Masons has also been appointed to advise the Sellafield legal team, which is based in Warrington.
The firm's construction team, lead by Graham Alty, has been appointed to act for Laing O'Rourke on a joint venture with Westinghouse, Shaw and Toshiba which is bidding to be the contractor for new UK nuclear power stations.
Corporate lawyers at the Manchester office have had a busy period advising on deals in the oil and gas markets for clients including Amec and Barclays Private Equity.
Helen Ridge, head of the 150-strong Manchester office, which is in Spinningfields, said: “Kevin's relocation to Manchester to head up the regulatory team further strengthens our health and safety team in the north west.
“He brings with him a wealth of experience and is much sought-after for his training and compliance work.”
She added: “We have invested further in our people and expertise that we offer in Manchester, demonstrated through a number of strategic recruits across our property, regulatory, corporate and pensions teams.
“Through our sector focus we have seen growth in a number of core areas, including the energy and oil and gas sectors.
